Warfarin : Warfarin or Coumadin is used as an anticoagulant drug.

Indications :

This is actually used to treat venous thrombo embolism for the disorders such as Stroke, atrial fibrillation etc.

Action:

This drug dissolves clots and allows free flow of blood by decreasing the proteins responsible for clotting.

Dosage and Routes

Drug can be administered orally with or with out food.Where as the dose depends on the International Normalized Ratio. The normal levels are below 1.5, where as above 1.5 is abnormal where the dose varies according to the laboratory value.

Side Effects :

Severe Menstrual bleeding or haemorrhage

Dark coloured urine

Melena - Dark coloured stools with blood

Vomiting of coffee grounds of blood

Haemoptysis - Coughing of blood

Bone and joint pains.

Paradaxa is also a blood thinner same as Warfarin but the only thing is , this drug is considered to be more safer than warfarin and showing better results.This drug shows to have lesser risk of having good related strokes.The only risk factors lies with Paradaxa is gastro intestinal bleeding, where as Warfarin do have lesser chances of bleeding.

Side Effects :

Stomach pain and discomfort

Nausea and vomiting

Indigestion

Xarelto: Xarelto or Rivoraxaban is also an anticoagulant used for Stroke and also venous thrombo embolism.But this is not much safer as Warfarin and Paradaxa. Xeralto may also leads to life threatening condition with severe bleeding because of great chances of bruising.

Most common side effect of xeralto is bruising gums.
