Ans.) Steps followed must be taken when a nurse reviewing the use of MDI with a spacer with the child

• Hold the MDI at  upright and shake well
• Insert inhaler upright into spacer
• Now, tell the child to breathe normally
• Hold spacer and press down firmly on canister once
• Tell the child to breathe in and out normally for 3 or 4 breaths*
• Remove spacer from mouth
• Breathe out gently away from mouthpiece
• Remove inhaler from spacer

Advantage of using spacer with MDI - Spacer improves coordination between delivery of the medication from the inhaler and breathing it onto the bronchial tubes. It also cut down the quantity of medication.
