Oxytocin ( Pitocin)

Therapeutic class- Antidiuretic

Drug form - Pitocin or oxytocin injection is a natural

Hormone

Use - It is used for contraction of uterus to induce labour, control bleeding after childbirth and to induce an abortion.

Action - Contraction of uterus during childbirth and it. Stimulates the uterine muscles to contract and to increase the production of prostaglandins.

Adverse reactions - Irregular heartbeats, vomiting, nausea, headache, fainting, High BP

Contraindications - The fallowing conditions are contraindicated with this drug-

1. High blood pressure

2. Placenta previa

3. Previous C section

4. Fetal distress.
