One of the greatest changes that impacts health care quality and reimbursement today is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), also referred to as the "Affordable Care Act" or "Obamacare". The PPACA was signed by President Barack Obama in March of 2010. The purpose of this act was to ensure that all Americans would have access to affordable health insurance by eliminating barriers to obtaining health care coverage and access to health care services (Marquis & Huston, 2017). Over a span of four years, the set of comprehensive health care reforms would be phased in. This set of reforms included: implementation of a new Patient Bill of Rights in 2010, the introduction of bundled payments as well as a provision that would allow Medicare beneficiaries to receive preventative health care services for free and discounted brand name drugs for some who were using Medicare Part D starting in 2011, adding Accountable Care Organizations and other programs to promote collaboration between health-care providers and doctors to provide better care in 2012, hospital value-based purchasing and open enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplace started in 2013, and more access for Americans to affordable health care options in 2014 (Marquis & Huston, 2017).
Due to high premium rates, the federal government introduced healthcare insurance policies. PPACA is also known as Affordable care act which mainly concerned with the affordable health insurance by eliminating barriers to obtaining health care coverage and access to health care services.
This set of reforms included: implementation of a new Patient Bill of Rights in 2010, the introduction of bundled payments as well as a provision that would allow Medicare beneficiaries to receive preventative health care services for free and discounted brand name drugs for some who were using Medicare Part D starting in 2011.
But still many people are uninsured due to his the premium rates and hence this makes them unable to get proper treatment.
Government is spending so much on the healthcare system but why still not every citizen is insured?.
