The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), better known as Obama Care or Affordable Care Act has revolutionized healthcare in numerous ways. The relationship between quality care and higher rates for service has had little to no existence in a system based on being charged for service (Marquis, & Huston, 2017). Unlike private insurances, Obama Care has not only increased extended health insurance coverage for many at lower rates, but shifted reimbursements from volume to value (Marquis, & Huston, 2017). Volume based care has shown to be ineffective in providing quality care thus PPACA focused on value-based care (Bowling, & et al., 2018). Value based care focuses on the outcomes achieved based on the dollar that was spent for the care provided to the patient (Bowling, & et al., 2018). Thus, such change brought upon by the enactment of the Affordable Care Act has directly affected the quality of patient care.
