Equating status and authority cause confusion in a healthcare team. The reason for this confusion arises in understanding the key difference between status and authority. Status can also be considered power and it is the ability to influence others and be able to control their actions, and authority is the legal right to be able to give orders (Sepasi et al., 2016). Power is something that is and interior process that can improve the quality of patient care and promote autonomy. Authority refers to the chain of command, the legal responsibilities that the nurse and the staff are able to perform, it permits the and gives standards on what a physician is able to delegate to the RN and what the RN can delegate to a UAP or LVN. Status and authority should be made clear in a healthcare because the two are different concepts one is an inner experience while the other is a legal responsibility.
