Fats are one of the source of energy. They are stored and used by the body when needed.The RDS recommends 30 to 35% of energy should be received from fats

Some of the reason why fats should not be restricted to a very low level

  • Needed for metabolism of certain vitamins(Vitamin A,D,E,K are fat soluble vitamins ) and nutrients in the body to prevent vitamin deficiency
  • Certain fats like PUFA and MUFA are good fats which can prevent many heart disease
  • This will cause over eating resulting in obesity
  • The chance of cancer ,depression is high because of the body missing the essential fatty acids
