The registered nurse is the one of the health care professional who spends most of the time with patient in providing healthcare . For example - a patient is posted for surgery or any procedure ,the nurse will be there before surgery or procedure , during surgery or procedures and after surgery or procedure in the recovery period . She provides holistic care to the patients by respecting their culture, beliefs etc . The role of the nurse remains same irrespective of the department she is posted . The basic duty of the nurse is to provide patient centred care which is effective and efficient and it is provided in every phase of treatment .

Some of the challenges faced by the nurses are :-

- inappropriate nurse patient ratio which hinders their efficiency

- less pay

- double duties

- unavailability of resources

- inadequate practical skill training
