The signs and symptoms of conjunctivitis are

  • Redness
  • Itching
  • Tear for eye
  • Swollen eye
  • Blurring of the eye
  • Thick discharge from the eye
  • Pain on the eye
  • Sensitive to light
  • Sneezing, runny nose

The viral conjunctivitis settles in 3 to 5 days or a week with no complications

The bacterial conjunctivitis can take weeks or months to be recovered from the infection.

In allergic conjunctivitis, it will settle down only when the trigger is removed

Complications

  • Scarring of eyes
  • Meningitis
  • Keratitis
  • Opthalmia neonatrum from mother to new born
  • Double vision or loss of vision
