Immune system provides protection against the pathogens and the external environment. The integumentary system serves as the mechanical barrier that prevent the entry of organisms and foreign objects into the body. Lymphatic system is the primary system of immune system. It is a closed circulatory system that consists of lymph capillaries, lymph vessels, and lymph nodes. The lymph present in capillaries flows into lymphatic vessels, which are presented deep or superficial. The other components of lymphatic system include, the thymus gland, bone marrow, spleen and tonsils. The important functions of immune system are, preventing the entry of pathogens, killing or inactivating the invading organisms, removing the dead organisms from the site of infection, and destroying the abnormal cells in the body.

The redundancy or overlapping functions of the immune system ensures attacking the microbial invaders from multiple angles and destroy them. If one system fails to kill the invader, the other system function to kill the organism.
