Healthcare organisations are established for the prevention, treatment and management of illness or the preservation of mental and physical wellbeing through the services offered by the medical, nursing and allied health professions.

National Institutes of Health ( NIH)

NIH is a famous healthcare organisation and it is the largest biomedical research agency in the world, a part of U.S department of Health and Human services. The mission of the organisation is " to seek fundamental knowledge about the nature and behaviour of living systems and the application of that knowledge to enhance health, lengthen life and reduce illness and disability".

Planning process

Planning is the act of formulating a course of action. It is the fundamental management function; without proper planning no activities can result in optimum outcome. For the successful outcome and delivery of services planning is essential for a healthcare organisation.

Three things that the Organisation( NIH) can accomplish by proper planning:

1. Expanding the knowledge base in medical and associated science to enhance nation's economic wellbeing :

27 institutes are there under NIH for expanding the knowledge base in medical and associated science. Planning is an essential step in the proper working of the institutes to achieve its goals

2. Develop the programmes aiming for improving the health of the nation by conducting research in causes, diagnosis of diseases and its prevention

3. Conducting the research in identifying the effects of environmental contaminants

NIH office of the director is responsible for setting the policy and planning of the entire activities happpening in the NIH institutes and its research activities
