Introduction

Certain culture-related concepts are particularly relevant to healthcare and nursing. These include culture, race, ethnicity, and cultural competence. Culture refers to a set of beliefs, assumptions, values, and norms that a group of individuals largely observes and transfer across generations. Ingram defined culture as a learned world view demonstrated by a group of individuals that is transferred socially. Culture affects the beliefs, values, norms, and behaviors of individuals, and it is reflected in language, food, dress, and social institutions. Culture can significantly affect various aspects of human life, including health and preferences for managing health conditions. Multicultural trends are emerging in numerous countries due to globalization and mass immigration.

Healthcare professionals, especially nurses, should make an effort to understand and learn about different cultures. Understanding a patient's religious and cultural background can be highly beneficial in delivering health care. This understanding may cause healthcare professionals to evaluate their own cultural and religious beliefs, which may in turn influence their practice. Such cultural awareness denotes an individual's self-awareness of his or her own cultural background, differences, and biases. Acculturation, on the other hand, signifies the process of learning about a new culture. Nurses should adapt to different cultures by making modifications to their nursing practices.

The Purnell Model for Cultural Competence is a broadly utilize model for teaching and studying intercultural competence, especially within the nursing profession. Employing a method of systems theory, the model incorporates ideas about cultures, persons, healthcare and health professionals into a distinct and extensive evaluation instrument used to establish and evaluate cultural competence in health care. Although the Purnell Model was originally created for nursing students, the model can be applied in learning/teaching, management, study and practice settings, within a range of countries and cultures.

Overall each of these methods coincided with mutual understanding of respectfully understanding a culture differences as employee, employer as a coworker that as health advisor share this with all aspects of understanding of beginning of life to the end of life. How one person sees a person expression with body language isn’t always how it’s perceived to be. These measures are all ways of development of planned strategies and future of testing the descriptions and using personal experiences to share with others giving them the understanding of culture.
