Answer : Transcription factors the proteins that get assembled on the promoters regions in the eukaryotic genes that are required for the initiation of transcription. They bind to to specific DNA sequences and recruits activators or respressors as well as RNA polymerase which in turn regulation transcription of specific genes.

The five most important eukaryotic transcription factors along with their functions are given below

  1. TATA Binding protein (TBP) : Recognizes the TATA box in the promoter region of eukaryotic genes
  2. TFII B: Binds to TBP and recruits Pol II and TFIIF
  3. TFIIA: stabilises binding of TFIIB
  4. TFIIE: Recruits TFIIH
  5. TFIIH: Has helicase as well as kinase activity which phopshorylates the carboxy terminal domain of eukaryotic RNA polymerase at the serine and threonine residues resulting in the initiation of transcription.
