If you were to hire a global Manager, what skills would you require him/her to have and why?
In today's world, business is boundary free, boundary less and is made up of multiple countries, culture, languages, time zone etc. technology connects all of businesses 24/7 to the geographic locations all around the world. Global manager is defined by by his or her work which he or she is doing in the global presence within the organization. if i will hire a global manager then i will consider the following abilities
1. deep self-awareness:- it means the understanding of own beliefs and to know where they are different from others. it is the most crucial skill which should be in global manager. because without this he or she will not be able to understand and respect the beliefs of others. he or she will always claim that they are right and others are wrong which is not beneficial for the success of any business.
2. sensitivity to cultural diversity:- he or she should be sensible towards the diversity of culture. he or she should respect other culture and have interest in the lives of other culture. he or she should not think that their culture is superior.
3. lifelong curiosity:- he or she should have intense curiosity and solid desire to learn. otherwise he or she will be left behind. they should not think that they know about each and everything. infect, they should be ready to learn something new always as world is evolving constantly.
4. good negotiator:- he or she must have good negotiating skills as doing business across national and regional boundaries is not so easy. if he or she have these skills then he or she can enjoy the gamesmanship.
5. knowledge of languages:- he or she must have the knowledge of languages or other countries. because if global manager communicates with others in their native language then there is more chances to earn brownie points.
6. well spoken:- he or she should be well spoken because clear communication is the biggest leadership tool in global environment. if he or she is not able to say clearly what they mean or what they want then as soon as possible they will find themselves in deficit balance.
7. overseas experience:- he or she should have overseas experience that mean they are able to transcends their own culture perspectives and to learn how to do business in different contexts. without this, he or she cannot be successful at global arena.
8. collaboration:- he or she should have ability to collaborate with his or her team members from various countries. it is not enough to build a network to attain success globally infect they need to work well with others. it requires that they allow others to take lead and they can share credits for success which is also known as humility.
9. adaptive thinking:- he or she should be adaptive thinker. because adaptive thinkers have confidence to react and adapt change quickly. they think out of the box to solve the problems.
10. emotional intelligence:- he or she should be strong emotionally as in today' business world emotional quotient is more valuable than intelligent quotient. because if a person have high emotional quotient then he or she is quite self aware and have strong control on their emotions and more adaptive if there is sudden change in business.
