Time available per week = 40 hours *60 minutes * 60 seconds = 144,000 seconds

Units required = 4,800 units per week (demand)

Cycle Time = Time available per week/ Units required per week

=144,000 seconds / 4,800 units = 30 seconds per unit

Therefore cycle time is 30 seconds per unit.

  1. What are the theoretical minimum number of workstations required to meet the desired output rate

The theoretical minimum number of workstations = Total time or sum of required for all the task / cycle time

= 116 seconds / 30 second = 3.87 or 4 workstations (next whole number)
