through this question what is your comment and opinion of this paragraph?

Looking back on your own childhood academic world, what do you remember of your classrooms (including elementary, middle/jr high, and high school) and the teachers? Any practices that you plan to emulate or will never practice in a classroom?

Throughout my school life as a student, I met some wonderful teachers. The influence they had on me was part of the reason why I wanted to be a teacher myself. I had the best Geography teacher back in high school. When he took over our class, my Geography score was average at best, because I simply was not interested in the subject. He made the learning fun for me. For example, when introducing the river system in the country, he would elaborate on the stories behind the water- where their names come from, which provinces they past, what shapes/patterns they remind you of and so on. He never forced us to memorize the long facts. Instead, he used stories, songs and various visual aids to make the knowledge points stay in our memories. He was a wonderful teacher, and we all loved him!

I think all teachers know the importance of drawing students’ attention and interests. However, the actual practice can be really hard. It requires teachers, first, to know their students well. Also, it is time-consuming to do so, at least in comparison to the traditional cramming method of teaching. I definitely want to apply the former teaching approach, rather than the latter.

Answer #1

I have experienced an education system which was mainly based on highly competitive spirit. In this education system, memorising more and more facts were the symbol of supremacy. Cramming was considered valuable at that time.

This education system was basically developing us as a fit organism for rat race only. We were forced to learn various aspects without knowing their importance and contribution in daily lives. We used to just memorise various figures.

Critical thinking was an alien concept in my school days. When I grew up then I realised that such methodology was making my thought process very concise. I decided to incorporate the questions like why, how, who, what, when etc. Initially other students made fun of my cross questioning habit.

They also started feeling irritated with my questions. I decided to not to accept the things in their usual forms. I wanted to know the reason behind the existence of object in form in which they were existing. Various criticism were thrown towards me.

I decided to study less but effectively. Teachers should use models and pictures. They should try to connect usability of concepts in our daily lives. Concepts should be taught along with reasoning. Basics should be tried to strengthen.

All possible questions should be answered by self only. Each query should be answered. Importance of negative results should also be taught. Practical implication of theoretical knowledge is an important aspect.
