Agenesis of corpus callosum

It is a rare birth defect which is also known as a congenital disorder in which there is complete or partial absence of corpus callosum.

The brain has two hemispheres which is divided through corpus callosum which is a band of white matter.

The functional impairment that the individual will suffer from are as follows.

The most common characteristics in this disorder include

1. There will be vision impairment

2. Poor motor coordination (voluntary coordination)

3. Reduced for low muscle tone which is known as hypotonia

4. There will be low perception of pain

5. Might have chewing and swallowing difficulties

6. Delayed motor actions such as sitting and walking

There might be some social difficulties in the behaviour.

There can seizures which can occur. The individual might have gastric reflex, hearing impairment, intellectual disability. All these features are sometimes present in some individuals.

There is no specific treatment for callosal disorders. The patient undergoes developmental therapies, educational support along with good Medical Health.
