Directions
What is a research proposal?
The purpose of a research proposal is to identify and
formulate questions that arise from nursing practice and to design
a research project to study the identified problem. The goal of a
research proposal is to present and justify a research idea you
have and to present the practical ways in which you think this
research should be conducted. Research proposals contain extensive
literature reviews and must provide persuasive evidence that there
is a need for the proposed research study. In addition to providing
a rationale for the proposed research, a proposal describes
detailed methodology for conducting the research consistent with
requirements of the professional or academic field and a statement
on anticipated outcomes and/or benefits derived from the
study.
Directions
Write a research proposal using your clinical question
formulated earlier in the course that was approved by your
instructor. This may be either a qualitative or quantitative
research proposal. Your proposal must include APA formatting. The
proposal should be a 6–10 in length plus appendices cover page, and
reference page. The appendices should include your survey
instrument created in week 6. (week 7)
As you are writing your paper, use the below as
your guideline. Make sure you use APA format for all aspects
of the paper.

Research Proposal: Does the mother's cultural
background impact potential postpartum depression?
(A Retrospective of LA County)
This is the start of my paper:
Intro:
The birth of a baby can trigger many extreme emotions
in a woman’s life, unfortunately some women experience more
depression and anxiety than excitement. Many moms experience this
depression for the first one to two days which is called “baby
blues”, which fixes itself and resolves quickly, but when this
depression lasts for weeks and months after delivery, this is
called postpartum depression. This type of depression is “a more
severe, long-lasting form of depression” and “isn't a character
flaw or a weakness. Sometimes it's simply a complication of giving
birth” (Mayo Clinic, 2016). Many postpartum depression studies have
been performed and multiple contributing factors were found
including stress, financial problems, marital status, and culture.
The purpose of this study is to determine if cultural background
affects a mother’s susceptibility to developing postpartum
depression so that health care professionals can catch it early or
use earlier interventions.

Methodology
Since this is such a broad topic and population, I
would narrow the study down to a certain county and hospitals to
gather my information in order to specify it to that certain
county/community. I believe that this would also make the results
more accurate and would allow other researchers to replicate the
study in different areas and allow them to have different results.

Data Analysis

design.
Method of data analysis is clearly stated.
Method for displaying findings is stated.
Applicability to Nursing
Since postpartum depression accounts for “more than
600,000 women every year” (Postpartum Progress, 2016), this makes
this study extremely important in the health care field. Postpartum
depression is the most common complication of childbirth, putting
American families at risk each year. This research would
contribute to nurses and their knowledge because they would be able
to identify a woman’s culture very easily and use this study as a
basis so that they can take precautions in order to identify the
signs and symptoms of postpartum depression early on. Thissstudy
informs a current state of knowledge regarding risk factors for
postpartum depression and has implications for clinical
practice.
Proposal is complete so that another researcher could
replicate the study.

from this study.

Severe chronic depression in women after delivery called postpartum depression.
To determine if the cultural environment influences a mother's susceptibility towards postpartum depression.
Independent variables:- Gender of fetus.
Dependent variables:- Stress, financial problems, marital status, complications durinf delivery.
A hypothesis is what is being tested explicitly by an experiment. An assumption is tested implicitly. By making your assumptions as well as your hypotheses explicit you increase the clarity of your approach and the chance for learning.
