Nicotiana tabacum cells are cultured to high density
for production of polysaccharide gum. The reactor used is a stirred
tank that initially contains 100 litres of medium. The maximum
specific growth rate of the culture is 0.18 day-1 and the yield of
biomass from substrate is 0.5 g g-1. The concentration of
growth-limiting substrate in the medium is 3% (w/v). The reactor is
inoculated with 1.5 g L-1 of cells and operated in batch until
the
substrate is virtually exhausted; medium flow is then started at a
rate of 4 L day-1. The biomass concentration is 16.4 g
L−1 after 13.3 days of batch operation. Fed-batch
operation is carried out for 40 days under quasi-steady-state
conditions after batch operation is done. Determine the final mass
of cells after 40 days of fed-batch culture.
from my understanding the answer is 4.4kg, no idea how to formulate the equation to get to that answer

3. The bacterium Corynebacterium glutamicum has been aerobically cultured in a batch fermenter vessel on glucose at pH 7.0 and 20 °C to produce Glutamic acid for the manufacture of Mono Sodium Glutamate, a flavour compound for the food industry. The time course data for a typical batch culture of this bacterium in a fermenter vessel are given below: t (h) Cell dry weight (g l-1) Glucose concentration (g l-1) Glutamic acid concentration (g l-1) 0 1.22 100 0 8 ...
A CHO mammalian cell culture is set up by a chemostat stirred tank bioreactor to produce HBsAg. Glucose is the growth rate limited substrate and cell growth follows the Monod Model. The feeding flow rate is 20L/hr with the glucose concentration 0.25M, and the glucose concentration in the outlet is 5g/L. It has been found out the maximal cell growth rate is 0.2 hr-1 and the saturation constant, or half-velocity constant of substrate is 2.0 g/L. The cell yield coefficient...

The volume of each reactor is 2 m'; the flow rate of feed is 200 ocurs in the both ractors but the scecond reactor is used for L/h. Mycelial growth for product synthesis. The concentration of substrate in the feed is 20 g/1. Kinetic and yield parameters for the organisms are: Yxs = 0.5 kg/kg Ks 1.0 kg/m Hm 0.12/h ms = 0.025 kg/kg-h p...
You are looking to design the first couple of units in a fermentation suite. The cells and product are particularly delicate. The cells need a substrate, S, that is extremely expensive. However we can make substrate S from a cheap reactant, A, and a slightly expensive reactant, B. At the end of the exam is a diagram of the whole system. Species A is continously fed into a reactor (Caf 1 mol/ vo 2 L/ s) initilly charged with species...

please help me. answer only first page. thank you! p. If you accidentally forgot to inoculate your organism in an OF-glucose tube with oil, and only had one yellow “no oil” tube, what type of carbohydrate catabolism would describe that organism (fermenter, oxidative, neither)? Explain your answer. q. What are two other results from the OF-glucose tubes other than their type of carbohydrate catabolism? r. How can organisms that don't use starch grow on a starch agar plate? Carbohydrate Catabolism...
