Silent mutation is a type of mutation in which the nucleotide base is changed without a change in the aminoacid or function.So the phenotype character will not change

Usually the DNA is read as a codon,it is a set of three nucleotide .Each codon only code for a aminoacid .But a aminoacid can be coded by more than one codon

For example

TTT codon code for Lysine aminoacid

TTC codon also code for lysine

Silent mutation is when the 3rd nucleotide T(Thymine ) is replaced by C(cytosine ) ,but the aminoacid formed from it s not changed ,so the Phenotypic character will not change.

All other variation can lead to change in phenotype
