ANS 1. In 1998 , USDA has made it mandatory to add vitamin B in grain products.

Folic acid is a B vitamin that was added that can prevent certain deficiency , birth defects.

ANS. 2. PURPOSE

1. To add micronutrients like vitamin to food.

2. To reduce the number of people with dietary deficiencies within a population

3. Eliminating pellagra, , beriberi, rickets, goiter from people in USA by adding key nutrient to foods such as bread , grains that are low priced and widely consumed in USA.

ANS 3. Although fortified and enriched foods can add to healthy diet , vitamins and minerals in food but they are not enough to themselves , many research showed that fortified food may cause people to get overdose or harmful amount of vitamins and minerals . Therefore , it is necessary to eat healthy diet like vegetables and fruits etc. along with fortified food, one should not rely only on fortification to get all nutrient.
