DNA is Deoxyribonucleic acid whereas RNA is Ribonucleic acid.
DNA is a double-stranded molecule consisting of a long chain of nucleotides whereas RNA is usually a single strand helix consisting of shorter chains of nucleotides.
The differences between DNA and RNA are :-
DNA | RNA |
• DNA is mainly found in nucleus and nucleoid. A small quantity may be found in mitochondria and chloroplasts. | • RNA is mostly found in the cytoplasm. |
• It contains deoxyribose sugar (at 2nd position). | • It contains ribose sugar. |
• The bases present in DNA are :- Adenine, Guanine, cytosine, Thymine. | • The bases present in RNA are :- Adenine, guanine, cytosine, Uracil. |
• DNA is susceptible to UV damage. | • RNA is less susceptible to UV damage. |
• A pairs with T and C pairs with G. | • A pairs with U and C pairs with G. |
• DNA is self-replicating. | • RNA is synthesized from DNA on an as needed basis. |
• Carries the genetic information necessary for the development, functioning and reproduction. | • Mainly involved in protein synthesis. Sometimes it regulates the gene expression. |

10. Which of the following statements best summarizes the differences between DNA and RNA? Group of answer choices DNA nucleotides contain a different pyrimidine base than RNA nucleotides. The bases in DNA contain sulfur, whereas the bases in RNA do not contain sulfur. The bases in DNA contain sugars, whereas the bases in RNA do not contain sugar. DNA encodes hereditary information, whereas RNA does not. DNA nucleotides contain a different purine base than RNA nucleotides. 9. A phospholipid is...
Part A What are three observations that suggested eukaryotic RNA was an intermediate between DNA and protein? Select the three observations. O DNA plays the major role in replication, which allows for sustainable transfer of genetic information. O RNA is transported out of the nucleus and into the cytoplasm where protein translation occurs. Three types of RNA are found in the cell, and all of them are involved in protein synthesis. O DNA is found in the nucleus and protein...
Comparing DNA and RNA There are many similarities between DNA and RNA. What statements support this idea? Check all that apply. Check All That Apply Both DNA and RNA nucleotides contain the nitrogenous bases adenine, cytosine, and guanine. Both DNA and RNA contain monosaccharide sugars on their respective nucleotides. Both DNA and RNA are involved in the "Central Dogma" of biology. Both DNA and RNA are always double helices. Both DNA and RNA contain phosphate groups on their respective nucleotides....
