Imagine you are the Project Manager of a team of software specialists working on a project to produce a piece of application software in the field of project management. How would you justify the strategic importance of the project and convince your team members the need to maintain focus on the project’s attributes in order not to go off track to waste critical organizational resources?

A project manager incharge of any kind of a project has the mandate to keep teams together while working on a project. He has to ensure that there is strong teamwork among the team members which ensure that the project is completed successfully and it is executed in a professional manner with all goals and objectives being met fully. In addition, he has to ensure that the focus and motivation of all the team members is geared up to completing the project at hand with the best quality.

Therefore, there are measures that he should keep in place to ensure that the team is always focused and motivated. These include;

  • Setting realisting goals and objectives.
  • Offering training session to the team members.
  • Responding in time.
  • Frequent meetings.
  • Resolve conflicts

Setting Realistic Goals and Objectives.

This ensure that the team has its focus on the goals and objectives and they will not tire until the goals are met. The goals and objectives can be set for each day so that in every day the team has to work to achieve the goal before they can leave. The goals and objective should be realistic such that they are possible to be achieved in a set duration of time. Therefore, the goals should be composed of less activites so that they can be achieved easily. Being able to reach the set goal also serves as a source of motivation to the team since the they can track their progress easily and they can also see the fruits of their effort.

Offering Training Sessions to the Team Members.

Training helps improve the quality of work that the team does and also helps equip the team members with new set of skills to enable them work on the project better. Therefore, the project manager should schedule time where the team members undergo training to help them work on the project effectively. This ensure that the project quality is high and all the goals and objectives of the project are met.

Responding in time.

The project manager should ensure that he responds to the requests of the team members as quick as possible. Quick response also motivates the team members to work quickly. The quick response also avoids the team to lack motivation which is sometimes caused delayed or even lack of response from their leaders. The project manager should be giving feedback in time always. He should also include information from the project sponsers and the information he is given by the client.

Frequent Meetings.

Frequent meetings are a major aspect of a successful project. This is because during these meetings, the project manager reminds the teams of the goals and objectives of the project. He also reminds the benefits of completing the project in time using the given duration. It is during these meetings that the teams informs of the challenges they are facing and discussions occur and a solution is found. More so, the make clarifiications and changes which are needed to make the teams work easier and more efficient. This ensure that the teamd are always focused on the goals of the project.

Resolve Conflicts.

In a situation where several people are involved, conflicts are bound to occur. Therefore, in a project, the project manager should solve the conflicts of any sort that occur so that they do not slow down the project hindering the achievement of the goals and objectives. If a confilict arised between activites, the project manager should respond quickly and find a solution to it. The same case if a conflict arises among the team members.

These activities always ensure that the teams involved in the project of creating an application software are always focused.
