What is Project Management?

  • Project management is defined as the process of the planning, organizing, and managing the effort to accomplish a successful project by utilizing & applying knowledge, skills, technologies, and tools.
  • Project management’s goal is to ensure that each and every individual involved in a project must be aware of the purpose of the project.
  • Project management is an activity of getting insight into associated objectives, the means to accomplish them, need, & utilization of resources, and time taken to arrive at that particular objective.
  • Project management is made up of two words in which 'Project' which means a one-time activity, and 'Management' is defined as an act of managing & handling things efficiently.

What is Operation Management?

  • Operation management is associated with handling the overall process of maintaining operations of an organization, including conversation of raw material into useful finished products, to its successful delivery to the customers, to gaining profit by creating value.
  • Operation management is associated with controlling & co-ordinating various sets of activities among all the departments in an organization.
  • Operation management consists of day-to-day activities, or functions which are necessary for working of an organization.
  • Operation management includes production management, marketing management, financial management, human resource management, supply chain management, logistic management, and everything which makes organizations.
  • Operation management is made up of two words in which 'Operation' is defined as a series of activities necessary for successful working of an organization, and 'Management' is defined as an act of managing & handling things efficiently.

What is Organizational Strategy?

  • Organizational strategy is defined as a process of formulating long-term plans to achieve an organization's vision & mission.
  • Organizational Strategy is made up of two words in which 'Organization' is defined as an arrangement or group of people working together to achieve a desired goal, and 'Strategy' is defined as a structured set of plans.
  • Organizational strategy plays a key role in achieving any objective of an organization effectively & efficiently.

The relationship between Project Management, Operations Management, and Organizational Strategy:

To understand the relationship between Project Management, Operations Management, and Organizational Strategy, let's consider Operation Management as a one big system which consists of various projects into it, and to make the system successful it requires a strategic approach.

Operation management is a backbone of any organization which includes controlling & co-ordinating the working of every department of an organization. Project management is a small part of an operation management process, and for its successful completion organizational strategy plays a major role. Project management consists of a single, or multiple projects of various departments which are part of operations management. Organizational strategy provides a roadmap for successful accomplishment of any project. Organizational strategy also provides a framework for successful management of operations inside an organization.

A simple example that shows the relationship between Project management, Operation Management, and Organizational Strategies is:

Suppose an organization got a project for manufacturing a car, this is a part of project management. For its successful completion, the department requires various raw materials, or other resources, this is part of the operation management team, and to complete the project on time with utilizing resources that it saves cost needs a planned organizational strategy.
