Human Resource planning is a process that is used to identify current human resources and forecasting future needs of human resources which are required or will be required by an organization to achieve its goals. This planning serves a link between the human resource management and the overall strategic plan of an organization.

In other words, human resource planning is process which ensures that the human resource requirements are identified and appropriate plans are made in order to fulfill/satisfy those requirements. The planning process includes; retention strategies, flexibility strategies, recruitment process, selection strategies, etc. the strategic planning process begins with assessing current staff, including the question as to whether the current staff fits the organizations needs or not. And further moves on to forecasting future staffing needs to achieve the business goals.

The two steps in strategic human resource planning are:

1. Assessing current Human resource capacity and forecast the HR requirements- The first and foremost step in planning process is to assess the current staff of the organization. This is to make sure and get aware of the current talent the organization have at their disposal, before making any move to hire new employees.

Once the assessment of current staff is done, the full inventory of resources which we have at our disposal, the next move is to forecast future needs. This can be done by assessing; that do the organization needs to grow or expand its human resources in number? Or do the organization needs to stick to the current staff by improving their productivity by means of new skills training?

2. Talent strategies, review and evaluate- The second step in planning process is developing talent strategies and further reviewing and evaluating. In this stage after the assessing process of the current staff, its time begin the process of developing and hiring new talents. This is the most crucial part or stage of the strategic human resource planning process.

When this planned process is put into place, the review and evaluation of the process starts, as to whether the plan has helped he organization to achieve its goals. These goals can be in terms of factors like production, profit, employee satisfaction. And the result of this evaluation will be either that the plan is working or running smoothly, which means that this plan can be continued. But if there are issues coming up with the planned process, then the process can be changed to better suit the organization.
