Some of the examples are Over the cuckoo's nest, Mad to be normal , The Shining, Shutter Island .

There are also positive portrayals which proved to be beneficial.

Eg : Monk a drama. Here the detective helps in solving crimes.

I think these portrayals will definitely change people's attitudes towards these persons. They are segregated by the society. They are seen in society with their defects. Peoples remain to be judging each other by seeing characters, symptoms, portrayals of the ill people in mass media. Sometimes mass media remains harm in wrongly portraying these people. They are people with disorders.

They should not be segregated but to be taken care of and people should start living with community as a whole.
