1. DNA is made by the process of replication. The new strand is made in the 5' \rightarrow 3' direction.

2. In eukaryotes, the process occurs in the nucleus, in prokaryotes in the cytoplasm.

  • DNA replication occurs prior to cell division. The strands are synthesized in the 5' to 3' direction. Leading strand is synthesized in a continuous fashion. Lagging strand is synthesized in fragments (Okazaki fragments).

3. RNA is made by the process of transcription. The new strand is made in the 5' \rightarrow 3' direction.

4. In eukaryotes, the process occurs in the nucleus, in prokaryotes in the cytoplasm.

  • The template strand having 3' to 5' polarity is transcribed to form to RNA transcript. Transcription is catalyzed by RNA polymerase.

5. Protein is made by the process of translation. The new strand is made in the amino to carboxyl (N\rightarrowC) direction.

  • In the large subunit of ribosome, there are sites for the binding of the tRNA. A peptide bond forms between the first two amino acids (bound to their respective tRNA), in which the carboxyl group of the first amino acid reacts with the amino group of the second amino acid. This leaves the amino group of the first amino acid free which indicates that the amino acids are incorporated in the growing polypeptide chain from the amino to the carboxyl end

Since prokaryotes do not have a nucleolus, the best suited option for the processes occuring in prokaryotes is the cytoplasm.
