In carbohydrate metabolism (in aerobic respiration), the total mechanism is divided in to three main cycles.

1. Glycolysis: Glyco = glucose, Lysis = clevage.

It is a fundemtal pathway in respiration. It occurs in Cytosol. In Glycolysis, the hexa carbon molecule i.e. Glucose is cleaved in to 2 molecules of three carboned Pyruvic acid. The net yeild of Glycolysis is 2 NADH2, 2ATP and 2 Pyruvic acid moleucles.

The second step in respiration is Krebs cycle. This is discovered by Krebs.

Before entering the kerbs cycle, the pyruvic acid molecule undergoes lepmens reaction. In this reaction the pyruvic acid converts in to Acetyl Co. A. One NADH2, 1 CO2 molecule is net product here.

2. Krebs cycle:

The krebs cycle occurs in Mitochondrial Matrix.

The 2C Acetyl Co.A coverts in to Citric Acid with the help of Oxalo Acetic Acid. It undergoes a series of reactions, again it will form OAA. The net prodcuts of Kerbs cycle is 2 CO2 moleules, 3 NADH2, 1FADH and 1 GTP/ATP molecules.

and the last step is

3. Electron Transport Chain.

It occrus in criste or internal membrane of the mitochondira...which have the electron carriers also called as cytochrome complexs.

The high energy molecules, NADH2, FADH undergoes ETS and the ATP molecules will be synthesized. in ETS the net prodcuts are Water and ATP molecules.
