Define and provide examples of these three theories Deontology, Quantitative Hedonism, and Consequentialism
Deontology or duty ethics which is otherwise known as Kantian ethics suggests that one should fulfil one’s duty without worrying about the consequences. A soldier who fights against the enemies shouldn’t worry about how many people die but focus on eliminating all the enemies which is the soldier’s duty.
Quantitative Hedonism suggests that all pleasures have equal and intrinsic goodness in quantity, intensity and duration. Which means whether one eats one banana or five bananas, the pleasure is going to be same. This is also in stark contrast with qualitative hedonism which suggests pleasure changes depending on quantity, intensity and duration.
Consequentialism suggests that one’s act would be considered ethical depending on the rightness or wrongness of the outcome. This means the end product would be considered for the ethical considerations. This means if one steals a medicine to save one’s life, it would be considered ethical under consequentialism.
