Ans: There are two types of contractile myofilaments in the muscle fibre:

Thick filaments made up of protein myosine make dark bands

Thin filaments made up of protein actin make light bands.

Both the fibres are arranged in repeating units and known as Sarcomeres.Each sarcomere bounded by the dense stripe called Z line at the each end in between there are myosin filaments overlapped by actin filaments.

Arrangement is shown in the image below:

  • A band contain myosin fibres. An anisotropic band contain both actin and myosin fibres.
  • I band contain actin fibres I.e. thin filaments.
  • H band is a zone of thick filaments with no actin filament
