Demand for the three different products is as follows: product A, 40 units per day; product B, 50 units per day; and product C, 60 units per day.
(a) What is the average processing time in resource 2
(in minutes per unit)?
(b) What is the capacity of resource 2 (in units per day)?
(c) What is the demand for resource 2 in hours per day?
(d) What is the available resource time at resource 2 in hours per
day?
(e) What is the implied utilization of resource 2?
Total processing time for Unit A , B & C = 3+4+5 = 12 minutes
Average processing time for 1 unit of each = 12 / 3 = 4 minutes
Average processing time in Resource 2 with 2 workers = 4 / 2 minutes per unit = 2 minutes / unit
b) Capacity of Resource 2 = Total time available in a day / Average processing time = 8 * 60 / 2 = 240 units / day
c) Demand for Resource 2 in hours per day = Sum of (Demand * Processing time) = 40 * 3 +50*4+5*60 = 620 minutes
or 620 / 60 = 10.33 hours
d) Available resource time at resource 2 in hours per day = 2 workers * 8 hours = 16 hours
e) Implied utilization = Demand / Available time = 10.33 / 16 = 64.58%

PA 3-3 Consider a process consisting of three... Consider a process consisting of three resources. Assume there exists unlimited demand for the product. Resource 1 has a processing time of 2 minutes per unit. Resource 2 has a processing time of 6 minutes per unit. Resource 3 has a processing time of 4 minutes per unit. Resource 1 Resource2 Resource 3 All three resources are staffed by one worker. The flow diagram is shown above. Round "Capacity of resource" to...
OVERWORKED INC has 3 resources (Resource A, Resource B and Resource C) in its production process. The production process involves 3 products (Product A, Product B and Product C) being processed through these 3 resources. Currently, there is demand for 800 units of Product A, 1,200 units of Product B and 200 units of Product C per day. The processing times for each product at different resource levels is given in the table below: Product A Product B Product C...
Consider the following batch flow process consisting of four process steps operated by Anna, Aaron, Emily and Mike. Emily’s step requires set-up. Assume the units in a production batch must be moved together between steps. The activity times and setup time are given below: What batch size would you choose so as to maximize the process capacity? a. 5 b. 10 c. 15 d. 20 e. 25 Process Steps operated by Processing Time in min per unit Setup time Anna...
2. Four Step Process with Rework and Scrap - from module 5 slides Consider the following four step assembly operation with quality problems. All resources are staffed with one operator. The first resource has a processing time of 4 minutes per unit The second resource has a processing time of 3 minutes per unit. This process suffers from a high yield loss and 50% of all products have to be scrapped after this step. The third resource also suffers from...
c. What will be the new bottleneck in the process? d . How many customers a day will not be served? Which customers are going to wait? Explain your reasoning! (Car Wash Supply Process) CC Car Wash specializes in car cleaning services. The ser- vices offered by the company, the exact service time, and the resources needed for each of them are described in the table following: Resource Used Service Description Processing Time A. Wash Exterior car washing and drying...
HEAVYLOAD INC has 3 resources (Resource A, Resource B and Resource C) in its production process. The production process involves 3 products (Product A, Product B and Product C) being processed through these 3 resources. Currently, there is demand for 700 units of Product A, 1,200 units of Product B and 200 units of Product C per hour. The following bullets provide information about each resource: At Resource A, the processing time for Product A is 14.112 seconds and for...
Consider a process consisting of three activities required to make a cell phone case. Assume there exists an unlimited demand for the cases. • Activity 1 has a processing time of 6 minutes per unit. • Activity 2 has a processing time of 3 minutes per unit. Activity 3 has a processing time of 5 minutes per unit. All three activities are staffed by one worker and each worker gets paid $12 per hour. A. Calculate the cost of direct...
Saved 7 Dolls are the flow unit in a process with two resources. The capacities of the resources are 15 and 0.99 dolls per minute. Demand occurs at the rate 11 dolls per minute. Instruction: Round your answer to one decimal place. What is the utilization (%) of the second resource? %6 05:59 Dinners are the flow unit in a process with two sequential resources. Matching supply with Demand (3rd Edition) - Question 10.2 (Process with Rework) Consider the following three-stage production process of glass ceramics, which is operated as a worker-paced line. Q10.2 Components 6 min./unit 5 min./unit min. /unit Finished Units Rework The process is experiencing severe quality problems related to insufficiently trained work- ers.
