Situational Leadership Theory:

Authors and Foundation:

  • It is a model created by Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard.
  • The Theory was developed while working on Management of Organizational Behaviour.
  • This was first introduced in 1969 as the "life cycle theory of leadership" later renamed as Situational Leadership Theory.
  • Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard developed two versions of this Theory: The Situational Leadership Model by Hersey and The Situational Leadership II model by Blanchard

Hersey and Blanchard's model is considered as part of the larger situational and Contingency theories of Leadership.

Description and assumptions:

Situational Leadership Theory requires two elements

  1. Leadership style of a leader
  2. maturity levels of followers

This theory identifies four main leadership approaches:

  1. Telling: It is a directive approach where the leader decides and tells followers what to do.
  2. Selling: The leader not only works to persuade the followers but also directs them incorrect manner.
  3. Participating: He makes decisions with the help of the followers and boosts them.
  4. Delegating: The leader himself not makes the decision but also gives the responsibility to the team to decide approaches.

Along with these approaches, They are four levels of follower maturity:

  • Level M1: Based on low competence and low commitment.
  • Level M2: Based on low competence, but high commitment.
  • Level M3: Based on high competence, low commitment, and confidence.
  • Level M4: Based on high competence and high commitment and confidence.

Dependent and independent variables:

These variables give the results based on the observation and appropriate questions.

And the results are given by Three independent variables such as kinds of education, bank, age considering four leadership styles, and apart from these include the dependent variables such as satisfaction, communication, effectiveness, and commitment.

According to my research:

There was an article on Situational Leadership Theory as Foundation Blended Learning Framework from ERIC

Blended learning framework:

It has a great demand for flexibility in learning and the cost-effectiveness of technology which evolved the blended learning.

It is a method in which a face to face instruction is replaced by online learning.

As we know the emerging computer science technology, blended learning has got its own way of teaching.

It mainly focuses on the practical side or application side and uses some vast concepts. This technology continues to evolve and demonstrate that the leadership sciences can make a global change.

We manipulated ostracism using Cyberball, an on-line ball toss game. Ostracized participants reported lower levels of belonging, self-esteem, control, and meaningful existence, and more negative mood, than included participants.
