A: a) S. aureus and b) S. pneumoniae

Explanation: Both S. aureus and S. pneumoniae are cocci which are Gram positive in nature.

NOTE: I realize the question says choose one option, however both of these are Gram positive hence if you have to choose one, either option should be correct.

2. Which bacteria was pink and rod shaped after staining?

A: b) E. coli

Explanation: Escherichia coli is a Gram negative (pink colour), rod-shaped bacterium

3. Which bacteria did not stain green after acid-fast staining?

A: b) M. phlei

Explanation: Depending on whether the counter stain is malachite green or methylene blue, the non-acid fast bacteria either appear green or blue under the microscope. E. coli, S. aureus and S. pneumoniae are all non-acid fast bacteria.

4. Which bacteria was acid fast positive?

A: b) M. phlei
