In a radiobiology experiment a mouse is irradiated by γ-ray. The lethal dose (dose which kills the mouse) is 12 Gy under oxygen saturated state (where its blood is saturated with oxygen). A second mouse is killed with a dose of 20 Gy (where its blood is less saturated with oxygen than the first mouse). What is the Oxygen Enhancement ration (OER) for the mice?

Oxygen enhancement ratio is calculated by the

OER= Dose without oxygen/ Dose with oxygen.

So given

Dose with oxygen= 12Gy

Dose without oxygen= 20Gy.

So OER = 20/12 = 1.66

So OER for nice is 1.66
