Under the law of majority of countries, humans are awarded with the status as persons, but animals aren't usually considered as a person. But I believe that every thing that has life has to be considered as an individual & must be respected. The ethical rules are varying with the situation, for instance, when an infectious disease outbreaks, the animals are killed off for the sake of human & our safety. We humans understand the importance of the other organisms, but we kill animals for food & animals that suffer stress behaves differently compared to the animal that is normal. For instance, birds caught from wild usually won't lay eggs in the cage that they are locked in with plenty of food, because they are highly stressed. But these birds might lay eggs in aviaries that are having natural factors such as the vegetation. This applies to the humans as well. Animals are subjected to researches extensively, for developing drugs & for testing purposes. These animal researches definitely induce pain to the animals. Scientists who experiment on animals are well aware of the ethical issue & accepts the fact that researches on animals should cause minimum suffering to the animals. It is also accepted that experimenting on animals is not morally right if other options are available.
