Answer #1

Hemoglobin have two conformation state:

* A high affinity R state

* A low affinity T state

The R state is favoured when oxygen concentration in the lungs are high, thus favoring loading of oxygen and the formation oxyhemoglobin. Conversely, the T state is favoured, when the oxygen concentration in the tissues are low, thus favoring unloading of oxygen.

Question 61: correct option is (c)

    Respiratory alkalosis leads to a shift of hemoglobin to the active R state. At first, it may be unclear why shifting to the R state is a bad thing, but the reason should be clear shortly. First, let us examine how CO, also affects hemoglobin directly. CO2 has a direct effect on hemoglobin In addition to its indirect effect on hemoglobin structure through its effect on pH, CO, also directly affects hemoglobin by reacting with the amino-terminal residue of each...

    Which of the following statement(s) is/are TRUE regarding the binding of oxygen to hemoglobin? A. The pH difference between the lungs and the surrounding tissues that decreases efficiency in oxygen transport is known as the Bohr effect. B. 100% of CO2 is transported by formation of a carbamate bond with the amino terminal residues in the hemoglobin chains. C. 2,3-Bisphosphoglycerate stabilizes the T state. D. All of the statements are true.

    For the video response portion of this assignment, your job will be to state what would happen to the oxygen bond to Hemoglobin if the pH of the tissue was the same as that of the lungs using the logic of the person’s presentation you watched. Discuss whether or not you agree with this. The video said this: Oxygen must be transported in the blood from the lungs, because the partial pressure of oxygen (pO2) is relatively high (approximately 100...

    Which of the following statements is correct about the process of breathing in the MAMMALIAN Respiratory System? Strong contraction of the Diaphragm exerts a positive force on the Trachea and Bronchioles, which pushes air into the lungs through positive pressure. Breathing with Lungs must be more efficient than breathing with Gills, since atmospheric air has less oxygen available, when compared to the amount of oxygen dissolved in water. During Inhalation, contraction of the Rib Muscles and Diaphragm increases the volume...
