Which statement is FALSE regarding flavoproteins?

A)

They may contain either FMN or FAD.

B)

The reduction potential of the flavin will depend on the amino acids in the polypeptide chain.

C)

They will need at least two substrates in order to function as enzymes.

D)

They are always integral membrane proteins.

E)

Most flavoproteins in electron transport have a lower reduction potential than coenzyme Q.

Please explain why C is correct and D is incorrect. Thanks!

Answer #1

Answer: Option (D) is False

Explanation: As we know that the flavin is a type of enzyme cofactor which contain two parts as  1. apoprotein 2. Bright yellow pigment part. is going to take electrons from every enzyme (at least present in mitochondria) which is going to produce FADH2

Nieghter apoprotein part of flavoprotein nor its pigment part can alone have efficiency to catalyze the oxidation of reducing pawer(NADH) so by mixing these two only we can restore the enzyme activity.
