The fleas here is being observed at 1000X magnification using a microscope. The same microscope at 40X magnification has a filed of view of 5000 um.

Now there is an inverse relationship between the field of view and the magnification. Hence higher the magnification, smaller is the field of view.

:: FOVI X M1 = FOV x My

Where, FOV is the field of view and M is the magnification.

:: 5000 x 40 = FOV, X 1000

5000 x 40 :: FOV2 = 1000 200000 1000

:: FOV = 200 m

Now, from the figure, we can see that the flea occupies approximately half the field of view.

Hence the size of flea is half the FOV.

FOV 200 :. Size = = 100um
