In two small towns in California, the rate of vaccination against measles is 60% and 80%. A child from each town goes to Disneyland and gets infected with measles and returns home. Almost all of the unvaccinated children in both towns gets measles. Why did this occur and how could it be prevented?

Measles is transmitted via droplets from the nose, mouth or throat of infected persons.

Severe measles is more likely among poorly nourished young children, especially those with insufficient vitamin A, or whose immune systems have been weakened ...complications like Common complications include diarrhea (in 8% of cases), middle ear infection (7%), and pneumonia (6%).These occur in part due to measles-induced immunosuppression. Less commonly seizures, blindness, or inflammation of the brain may occur.

Once a person has become infected, no specific treatment is available,] although supportive care may improve outcomes. So prevention should be the mainstay...

Prevention is by MR campaign which running worldwide...

2 doses of measles should be given to every children upto 15 years of age...

MR vaccine is also given to mothers ideally 3 months before conceiving or atleast one month gap should be present between vaccination and conception...
