Answer #1

1. The purpose of test cross is to identify  the genotype of an individual showing the dominant traits.
for example in the given case erect ears (E) are dominant over the drooping ears (e).

Pigs with erect ears can be having two types of genotype that are EE (homozygous) or Ee (heterozygous).

To identify the exact genotypes of the individuals with dominant traits, they can be crossed with the individuals showing recessive phenotype (ee).

2. A. Considering dominant  trait as homozygous (EE).

EE. X. ee

e e
E Ee Ee
E Ee Ee

All progenies with dominant trait that is erect ear.

conclusion: Individuals with dominant trait were homozygous.

B. Considering dominant trait as heterozygous (Ee)

Ee. X. ee

e e
E Ee Ee
e ee ee

Fifty percent progenies have erect ears and fifty percent progenies have drooping ears.

conclusion: Individuals with dominant trait were heterozygous.
