The linkage of two loci is a measure of the extent to which the two loci would be inherited together. In terms of transduction, it is a frequency at which the second loci will be inherited given the first loci is transferred.

Here we have a transposon Tn10 which is linked to proB locus at a linkage of 45%. Thus, when Tn10 is transferred via transduction, there is a 45% probability that proB will also be transferred to the recipient. Here, the donor is proB+ while the recipient is proB-. Thus, if the recipient receives proB from the donor, it will also become proB+.

There are 100 transductants in the sample. Since there is a 45% linkage, there is a 45% chance that Tn10 will be transduced alongwith the proB. Thus 45% of the recipients will receive proB and will become proB+. Thus, 45 transductants will be proB+ while 55% will be proB-.
