Answer #1

A. We will draw 2n chromosomes in the first cell at the Prophase of Mitosis.
Here for the sake of simplicity I have taken n = 1. Therefore the figure below has two chromosomes at the prophase.

B. The chromosomes at the Prophase are replicated, that is its genetic content has been doubled, but the number of chromosomes remains the same, that is 2n. The replicated chromosomes are called Sister chromatids and they are joint together at the centromere.

I hope this answers your question. Any feedback is appreciated, it will tell me how well I did to explain this answer and what I can do to improve it. Good Luck!

Simulate mitosis by drawing and include the following: Instructions: Set up your cell. The cell you start with should be: A diploid cell It should contain 2 homologous pairs of chromosomes (the cell has more chromosome pairs, but we are just looking at 2 of them) It should be in G1 of the cell cycle, before DNA replication occurs Be sure to show 2 genes that are both heterozygous . There should be one gene on each chromosome. Go through...

During the M-phase (Mitosis), spindle fibers extend from centrioles in the poles of the cell and attach to the centromeres of each replicated chromosome. The chromosomes are aligned along the equatorial plate of the cell in the process. Once all centromeres got attached from either side to a spindle fibre, a cellular checkpoint got passed and the spindle fibers begin to contract towards the poles, pulling the two sister chromatids apart such that one sister chromatid of each of the...
