Which of the following is not true about effective antibacterial drug:

It should target the plasma membrane since this is the one structure that bacteria and host cells have in common.

Reason:

Antibacterial drugs targets not only plasma membrane,it may inhibit cell wall, biosynthesis of proteins, nucleic acid synthesis and will also disrupt membrane like lipopolysaccharides.

Antibacterial drugs also acts as antimetabolites.Acts in folicacid synthesis and mycolicacid synthesis enzyme.

Common drugs like \beta - Lactam, glycopeptides, bacitracin,Aminoglycosides, macrolides,Isonicotinic acid hydrazide .

Why the following are true about Antimicrobial drug

It should not be a target of attack by the microbe:

Because the microbe will degrade the drug and defuntioned the drug activity towards pathogen

It should specifically target a unique pathogen process or molecule:

Target specific nature of antimicrobial drugs promotes effective treatment on diseased site.

Example: Drug Bacitracin acts on peptidoglycan subunit transport which will inhibit bacterial cellwall biosynthesis and to prevent the growth of bacteria.

It should have a minimal inhibitory concentration against a wide range of organisms:

Using lowest concentration of drug that will prevent the growth of an organism.

Minimal inhibitory concentration is required due to the susceptibility to the commonly using antibiotics, especially for ill patients
