Freud's contribution to psychology
was that , he developed a topographical model of the mind
describing the features of the mind structure and function.
He classified mind into three categories as preconscious mind,
subconscious mind and unconscious mind.
He stated that conscious mind consists of all the mental processess
of which an individual is aware of and
preconscious mind contains thoughts and feelings that an individual
is not aware of, but can
be brought to consciousness.
He also described that the human behavior is based on their
unconscious mind state which comprises of mental processes that are
inaccessible to consciousness but do influence judgements,
feelings, or behvaiors of others. According to him an individuals
motives and decisions are influenced by past experiences and stored
in unconscious mind.
Horney agreed with Freud's belief
that people have little or no awareness of what motivates them, but
objected
his interpretations on feminine psychology, keeping more emphasis
on social factors rather than biological factors.
Klein agreed with Freud's belief that people are motivated by competing with each other, needing each other and their dependency on others.
