Which habitat do you expect will have higher species diversity, urban creek or campus? Why?
I think a campus will have a higher species diversity because it will have species of plants, birds, small animals etc. On the other hand, an urban creek will only have a few aquatic species.

Why does higher foliage volume result in higher warbler (bird) species diversity? Lower foliage volume provides fewer niches for keystone predators and leads to competitive exclusion Higher foliage volume allows for keystone predators to increase competitive exclusion Higher foliage volume provides more niches for coexisting species and reduces competitive exclusion Lower foliage volume increases habitat complexity which provides more niches for competing species
1. In terms of microbial diversity, what would you expect to find when examining a sample of ice water obtained from the North Pole? A) High species richness and high species abundance B) High species richness and low species abundance c) Low species richness and low species abundance D) Low species richness and high species abundance 2. Which of the following factors does NOT influence the types of microbial activities in an ecosystem? A) The noise levels in an ecosystem...
If all soil bacteria on Earth were to suddenly disappear, which nutrient cycle would you expect to be the most strongly affected
Do you think that it is always the case that diversity seems to produce higher profits. Why or why not?
which of the following would you expect to have a higher melting point? explain why 3. Which of the following would you expect to have the higher melting point? Explain why. (3 marks - 1 for the answer, 2 for the explanation) CI OH
Suppose you want to culture a species of bacteria in an environment without oxygen. You have 3 species to choose from: an acidophile, a thermophile, and an anaerobic bacterium. Which would you culture in the environment without oxygen and why?
1.Which of the following statements about species-accumulation curves is TRUE? Only gamma diversity can be estimated using species-accumulation curves Species-accumulation curves are a technique to estimate alpha diversity of a relatively homogenous site Species richness will be estimated correctly using species-accumulation curves even if there are only a few samples The order in which samples are processed will not affect the precise shape of species-accumulation curve 2. Which of the following statements about beta diversity is TRUE? Beta diversity does...
Use Simpson's index (equation 1) to calculate species diversity for the three communities shown in the table below. Show your work for Community A. It is not necessary to show your work for Communities B and C. where N = the total number of individuals of all species n_i = the number of individuals of species i Use the Shannon-Weiner index (equation 2) to calculate species diversity for the three communities shown in the table above. Show your work for...
