Discuss several ways in which bacteria are medically and ecologically important.
Medical importance of bacteria
· For antibiotic production: Various bacteria produce antibiotics which control the infections in the human body. Most of the antibiotic produced by actinomycetes. Streptomycin, tetracycline, and rifamycin etc.
· For the production of vaccines: we can be used bacteria as a vaccine by removing of virulence by the repeated culturing method or we can inactivate by adding the chemical (formaldehyde) after that we use as a vaccine for prevention of infectious BACTERIAL diseases.
· Ex. BCG vaccine prepared from Mycobacterium bovis by repeated culturing in nutrient depleted media.
· Probiotics: This bacteria is part of normal flora of human body and prevent the attachment of pathogen bacteria and further eliminates pathogens from body These are friendly bacteria which can be used to fight infections. They are specially used to treat diarrhea in children.
· For genetic engineering: Bacteria have short reproduction cycle about 20 minutes it can divide. And produce new daughter cells. This factor of bacteria is used in biotechnology to produce biological compounds in the form of insulin, human growth hormone, erythropoietin, DNase, Factor VIII and vitamin-B12.
· Protein A/G are immunoglobulin-binding bacterial proteins and are commonly used to purify, immobilize or detect immunoglobulins
· Streptokinase is an enzyme produced by streptococci which can break down blood clots and is therefore used in the treatment of myocardial infarction.
Ecological Importance
Discuss several ways in which bacteria are medically and ecologically important.
Discuss several ways in which bacteria are medically and ecologically important.
6. Name and discuss the three ways by which genetic recombination can occur in bacteria. Explain how they reproduce. Can bacteria of different genera exchange genetic material?
Give two examples of fungi that are important economically, ecologically, and as food for humans.
15. We have describe some of these medically far). iscussed several animals/groups of animals that are important from a medical standpoint. List and -important invertebrates, (this includes animals from at least 3 phyla discussed so
(a) Discuss the three ways that genetic material can be transferred among bacteria. (b)How is this achieved in eukaryotic cells?
discuss several ways computers are integrated into our business and personal lives?
Describe three of the several ways drugs can be administered into the body. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each of them with respect to toxicity, side effects, and how drugs exit the body.
we transform bacteria to make medically useful human proteins such as insulin and growth hormone. explain how the experiment we did could be modified so that we could transform e coli cells to manufacture huge quanties of human insulin molecules. this is a two part wuestion
for bacterial meningitis, it is also important to know which bacteria causing meningitis because antibiotics can prevent some types from spreading and infecting other people. briefly discuss chemoprophylaxis for contacts of meningococcal disease, specifying antimicrobials which have proved effective
2. In class, we discussed several ways that firms can secure financing for their strategies. Discuss the EBIT/EPS model. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each of the methods of securing funds?
