Hey, welcome to Chegg. I hope my answer will be of some help to you. Thank you!
The digestive tract starts from the mouth.
Mouth is the part of digestive tract through which food is ingested. Mouth contain teeth and tongue. Teeth helps in cutting and grinding of food while tongue is used for mixing it with saliva. The food is converted into a bolus.
The next part of the digestive system is oesophagus. It is also known as food pipe. It is a tube like structure which connect the mouth to the stomach.
Stomach is the storage organ of the gastrointestinal tract. In this, food is broken down with the help of enzymes and acid. The bolus is mixed with the gastric juice to form chyme.
Next to stomach is the small intestine. It can be divided into 4 parts. In this, the chyme is neutralised with the help of bicarbonate ion. The food is digested by enzymes produced by pancreas. The absorption of nutrients takes place.
The small intestine is followed by the large intestine. In this, water is mainly absorbed. The large intestine is divided into ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon and sigmoid colon.
The remaining waste product is excreted through rectum in the form of faeces.

Only animals with a complete digestive system have evolved specialized organs for digestion. Why? incomplete digestive system (2-way) - This system has a sac-like gastrovascular cavity (GVC) with only one opening to the environment. In this system, food passes through the mouth into the GVC where extracellular and intracellular chemical digestion takes place. The GVC extends throughout the body of the animal so that as food is absorbed it is available to the tissues; no transport system is needed. Waste...
