Answer #1

Answer:

  • Differences in CFU sizes, shapes and color indicates that the culture consists of different species of microorganisms (mixed culture). For example, bacterial colonies can vary in size, shape, color, texture, and degree of adherence to the media.
  • Different bacterial species may show different colony morphologies. For example some of the common bacterial shapes include rod shaped or bacillia, cocci or round shape, spirillia etc.
  • On the other hand, a pure culture consists of colonies that originate from same bacterial species and therefore in a pure culture all colonies appear same.
