P2A is 2 adenine sequence of porcine teschovirus (picornavirus), thereby, 2A.

2A is a self cleaving sequence present in this virus. Presence of this sequence enables the formation of two or more separate peptide from the same mRNA because this sequence enables ribosomes skipping during translation.

Ribosome skipping is a mechanism in which ribosome does not links covalently to a new inserted amino acid and therefore the translation continues.

This P2A sequence is used to obtain more than one polypeptide from same mRNA.
