Culture is a very important factor in a person’s behavior. The culture a person grows up in really shapes who they are as a person and influences their behaviors in society. An example of this is something that I spoke about in one of the previous discussion boards, but basically it is the idea behind kiss greeting. In other countries it is common and “normal” for people to kiss one another upon saying hello. This goes for man to man, women to women, and men to women. In the United States, that is not something that is done on a regular basis and can be seen as an abnormal behavior. Another example that comes to mind comes from tribes that live in Africa and/or other places in the world. It is “normal” for women to walk around with no clothes covering their top halves, and for men to be in nothing but a tent like thing covering their private area. Again, something that would be very strange in our culture, but something that is totally normal to the culture from which these people are living.

That being said, I think it is very important for a clinician to get an understanding of their patient’s culture to further understand their behaviors. I don’t think that a clinician could accurately diagnose someone based on their mental health without having some sort of understanding of their patient’s culture.

I have taken a personality test before, however, I think it was too simple for it to really give me accurate feedback. It was something that I needed to do for a class and it was an online 10 question (or so) test. It basically told you what career would be best for you based on your personality, but I did not find it to be very accurate. I think it would be really interesting to take an actual personality test and see what it says about my personality.

It is good said that culture plays an important role to shape our future. Actually our culture and the culture of society gives us the indications to build our future accordingly. It is the thinking of many society that every individuals should follow their culture. For example, as in the above paragraph said that kissing is not a sign of good culture in most of the countries, similarly in Indian culture hug and kiss is not allowed between opposite sex. If someone caught by doing so to other people in the society then every individuals changed their perception towards that persons. Even at some places people makes the culture like what their parents is doing they have to follow them, they can't choose some other field. Nowadays, this culture is still continuing is tribes at many places in different countries. Like in a village where fisherman is living, and at that village every old person and parents force their children to continue the same job. They are not permitted to go out of their village and to join some job other than fishing. Children born in educated family gets many facilities and such children becomes more talented and educated. Here culture also decides the personality of an individual. Children of a doctor should choose same field, children of an engineer should be an engineer, children of a teacher should be a teacher.

This way we can conclude that Culture plays major role in development of personality of an individuals.
